ESL V
This class is primarily for students who need to transition to higher education or find better jobs. This class focuses on each student being an individual with different interests, needs and goals.
The class meets Monday – Thursday. 6:00-9pm.
Transition focus on work place skills.
Resume building skills.
Attending a variety of workshops in collaboration with the Careers Center
WorkKeys computer based learning system.
Advanced Speaking and Listening practice. Including, but not limited to:
Critical Thinking
Interpreting
Summarizing and Synthesizing
Making Inferences
Problem Solving
Making Decisions
Discussion practice in small and large groups of current topics.
Idioms in Everyday Use
Pronunciation Practice.
Writing Development.
The Essay Process
Grammar Review and Extension.
Business Writing.
A variety of texts are used in this course. Some of which include: Future English for Results Level 5 by K O’Dell and J. Gokay, The Great Writing Series by K Folse A. Muchmore-Vokoun and E Vestri Solomon, Real Talk 1 and 2 by Lida Baker and J. Tanka, Grammar in Context Levels 2 and 3 by Sandra Elbaum.
In addition, numerous websites and online materials are used in conjunction with all the above.
